About the Hamilton Hawks

Hamilton Rugby Union Club was founded in 1967 after initially fielding juniors teams the previous year. We have been playing in the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Competition since 1966 and today we field numerous teams in senior and junior comps, making us one of the most competitive clubs in Newcastle!

About Hamilton Hawks, About Us, Hamilton Rugby Club

our mission

Our mission is simple! We want rugby union to be a sport for all. Hamilton Hawks Rugby Club want to encourage and support the participation of all ages in rugby, giving everyone the opportunity to try something new and fun.

We also have a vision alongside Rugby Australia, to see more women and girls in rugby. We want to provide opportunities for female teams to be established across all levels.

We pride ourselves on being a rugby club with strong values and ethics. We stand by:

We want you to feel welcomed and comfortable in our Hawks community! If the Hamilton Hawks Rugby Club sounds like a community you would love to be a part of, contact us.

We say no to domestic violence

The Hamilton Hawks Rugby Club community continued to grow in 2018 through an alliance with Got Your Back Sista, a local charity whose vision is to see women and their children happy, thriving and living independently after escaping the trauma of domestic violence.

Long term Hawks supporter Jan Bynon made the initial connection between Hawks Juniors and Got Your Back Sista:

“I was looking at all the families there and thought this would be a good way to get a message out about teaching children about respect for women and themselves,” Ms Bynon said.

All Hawks Juniors proudly display the ‘Say no to domestic violence’ message on their Hawks training kit and parents featured in our media launch video. The Hawks Juniors committee saw this as a natural fit for the development of our children. 2018 Vice President Gerry Mason said:

It’s more than just getting kids a game of rugby. For us, it’s about putting some good values into kids as well and teaching kids that playing a game of rugby is great (but) winning isn’t everything. We want them to learn some stuff not only about rugby, but about what a decent person does.”

Hawks Juniors President Ben McMillan said the family-oriented club hoped to broaden involvement beyond the players aged five to 16 to the seniors too.

“I think it’s never too young to start conversations with kids. They need to know if they see or experience violence it’s not acceptable, should not be happening and they can speak to people at the club about it.”

2019 will see further strengthening of the relationship between the two organisations, with more involvement not just with the juniors but the Hamilton Hawks Rugby Club across premier men’s, women’s, boy’s and girl’s teams. Hawks stand shoulder to shoulder with Got Your Back Sista; domestic violence is never ok.
